Explore Delhi’s vibrant blend of old and new
You’ll fly by private jet from the UK to New Delhi before transferring for a two-night stay at The Imperial, an iconic colonial-era hotel that exudes old-world elegance. While in Delhi you’ll explore this extraordinary city on a full-day sightseeing tour, marvelling at the contrasts between Old Delhi’s historic mosques, monuments and forts and the cosmopolitan charm of New Delhi, which was built by the British to be India’s modern capital city. Highlights include a rickshaw ride through the Chandni Chowk shopping district, with its vibrant markets and bustling side-streets, and a visit to Humayun’s Tomb, India’s first great example of Mughal architecture.
See the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra
Take a private charter from New Delhi to Agra in northern India, a spectacular city that is home to some of the country’s most magnificent Mughal architecture. Here you’ll spend a night at the ultra-luxurious Oberoi Amarvilas, located just 600 metres from one of the city’s three UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the legendary Taj Mahal. While in Agra you’ll enjoy a sunset visit to this spectacular monument to love, a Mughal masterpiece that took 22 years to build, as well as the imposing Agra Fort, a red sandstone structure that houses beautiful palaces and mosques.
Marvel at Jaipur’s dramatic Amber Fort
After a magical sunset visit to the Taj Mahal, admiring its iconic domes in the changing morning light, take a private jet to the “Pink City” of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Here you’ll stay for two nights in Oberoi Rajvilas, a characterful luxury hotel peacefully located on the outskirts of the city. In the evening you’ll be driven to Amber Fort, a magnificent yellow-and-pink sandstone palace complex, to witness a famous sound and light show against the backdrop of the fort’s rocky walls. Afterwards, you’ll tour the palace’s intricately designed chambers and hallways, marvelling at highlights including an imposing gateway painted with the images of the elephant-headed god, Ganesh.
The next morning you’ll tour the City Palace, which is still home to Jaipur’s royal family, perusing the costumes and armory of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh and admiring valuable manuscripts in the grand Hall of Public Audience. Then it’s on to Jantar Mantar, an 18th-century astro-observatory and UNESCO World Heritage Site, which houses 20 fascinating large-scale astronomical instruments.
Enjoy dinner in the desert in Jodhpur
Take another private charter to the desert capital of Jodhpur, known as the “Blue City” thanks to the indigo-painted houses of its Old Town. Here you’ll spend two nights at the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace, a majestic sandstone monument that sits in peacock-filled grounds above the city. After a free afternoon to relax at the hotel or explore independently, there’s an optional a camel safari over the dunes for Champagne sundowners before enjoying dinner in the desert.
The following day, you’ll discover Jodhpur’s highlights on a half-day tour of this intoxicating city –starting with the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, which is prized for its sprawling courtyards, intricate carvings and beautiful palaces, before moving onto the lakeside marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Next it’s on to Jodhpur’s historic heart, where you can wander around the narrow alleys of Sardar Market shopping for brightly-coloured clothing, silver trinkets and handicrafts.
Take a magical evening cruise in Udaipur
Fly by private jet to Udaipur, Rajasthan’s most romantic city, which stands in a valley on the banks of glistening Lake Pichola. Your base for the next two nights is another Oberoi property, the Oberoi Udaivilas, which perches on the opposite side of the lake in a glorious waterside setting. Your Udaipur experience begins with a magical evening cruise through the lake’s mystical waters, taking in stunning views of the city.
The next day begins with a morning city tour, visiting the City Palace with its dramatic façade, paintings, mosaics and intricately carved ‘chhatris’. The palace is also home to a rare crystal collection ordered from England by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1877. The tour ends with a visit to a vintage and classic car collection, which includes a Rolls Royce, 1939 Cadillac open convertibles, rare Mercedes models and a 1936 Vauxhall. The afternoon can either be spent enjoying the hotel’s pool and spa or visiting a local market with the hotel’s chef to buy fresh produce and spices for a cookery lesson.
Discover the sacred River Ganges in Varanasi
Take a private charter to Varanasi on the banks of the sacred River Ganges. Home to over 1,000 temples and shrines, this holy city is where millions of Hindus come to wash away their sins in a long string of bathing ghats lining the river. You’ll transfer for an overnight stay at Taj Nadesar Palace, a historic boutique retreat on the riverbank, before heading out to witness a mesmerising candlelit Hindu prayer ceremony at the bathing ghats during which oil-lamp offerings are set afloat in the river.
The next day take an early-morning boat cruise on the mighty River Ganges, passing pilgrims bathing in the spiritually cleansing waters on the hundreds of stone steps that line the riverbank, before heading back onto terra firma to visit Sanarth, where Buddha delivered his first sermon. Later you’ll fly back to Delhi for one night in the JW Marriott Aerocity, before flying back to the UK.
