Chalet Gentianes, Courchevel 1850
A stone’s throw from the centre of France’s chicest ski resort, Chalet Gentianes is a truly ski-in, ski-out chalet offering unrivalled access to the world’s largest ski area: Les Trois Vallées. Tucked away among snow-dusted trees, this luxurious chalet sleeps up to 14 people in 7 stylish en suite bedrooms.
Built in traditional alpine style, the warming wood interior and lofty ceilings give a cosy ambience while maintaining a sense of space, and the central fireplace is the perfect place to warm chilly toes or catch up over a vin chaud. Downstairs, a gym, pool and jacuzzi are on hand to help you work out or unwind, along with a hammam and spa treatment room for soothing tired muscles. A dedicated butler is available to take care of every request, while a personal chef will prepare meals under the direction of your chalet manager.
With 600km of pistes and access to seven resorts, Les Trois Vallées is the world’s biggest (and arguably best) ski area. In fact, one ski pass will give you access to more than 150 lifts and over 300 runs. 85% of the ski area is above 1,800 metres and the majority of the slopes are north-facing, meaning there’s usually plenty of snow. It’s topped up and guaranteed from early December to the end of April though by the largest artificial snow system in France. For those looking to find their feet or perfect their technique, the chalet has its own bilingual ski instructor.
There’s no shortage of restaurants and bars in and around Courchevel 1850. From mountain-top retreats serving Savoyard classics, to open terraces and outdoor fires, there’s something to suit every mood. If you’re tempted to check out the après-ski scene or venture out for dinner, your personal driver will chauffeur you to the area’s top spots, then take you home in your own luxury navette. Otherwise, it’s only a five-minute stroll home from town – just long enough to help the fondue go down before a nightcap at the chalet.
