Spain could impose quarantine for UK visitors

Spain is considering enforcing a quarantine on British visitors unless the UK lifts its 14-day policy. If confirmed, this would echo the move by France to mirror UK self-isolation rules while allowing other European visitors to enter the country without quarantine restrictions.

Speaking to the BBC, Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya said: “We will be checking what the UK will be doing and we will be in a dialogue with the UK to see whether or not we should be introducing reciprocity as they have different measures than the rest of the European Union".

The decision would echo the approach taken by France, who opened its borders to European visitors on Monday without quarantine restrictions – aside from countries with their own quarantine policies. The UK government is facing increasing pressure to lift its 14-day quarantine policy and open up the country to international tourism. Meanwhile, the UK Foreign Office is still advising against all but essential travel.
