CES - Consumer Technology Association

Sanremo Music Festival

The Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo is the most popular Italian song contest and awards ceremony. Held annually in the city of Sanremo, it consists of a competition amongst previously unreleased songs.

The 2022 Winter Olympics

Where: Beijing, China

The Winter Olympic Games heads to Beijing, China, for 2022. This is the first time China has hosted the Winter Games and just the second Olympics of any kind in the country (after the 2008 Summer Olympics).

The Six Nations Championship

The Venice Carnival

Super Bowl LVI

One of the most-watched single sporting events of the year, the annual Super Bowl final heads to Los Angeles. Featuring the winners of the east and west conferences, ‘Super Bowl Sunday’ has become an American tradition and the biggest sporting event on their calendar.

Miami International Boat Show

The Miami International Boat Show is back for 2022 with a host of exhibits showcasing some of the biggest and best private yachts in the world.

London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week

Where: London, Milan & Paris

Kicking off the spring/summer fashion week season across Europe, London fashion week presents a host of catwalks, events and activations throughout the city all in the name of fashion. Next up, marvel at the likes of Versace, Giorgio Armiani and Fendi for Milan Fashion Week, which takes place from 22nd to the 28th of February. Finally, Paris rounds off this three-week fashion bonanza from the 28th of February and ending on the 8th March.

Daytona 500

When: 20th Feb
Where: Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Florida, USA

Home to the most prestigious race in Nascar, the Daytona International Speedway plays host to over 100,000 spectators and a handful of stock-cars who compete in a 200-lap battle of speed and skill.

Mardi Gras

The culmination of around 50 parades across multiple weeks, Mardi Gras day is one of the biggest events on the American calendar. Usually, a million visitors from far and wide pack the colourful city of New Orleans for this two-week celebration of floats, beads, food and booze.

Holi

Where: India

Also known as the ‘Festival of Love’ or the ‘Festival of Colours’, Holi is a popular Indian festival that celebrates the eternal and divine love of Radha Krishna. It also marks the blossoming of spring and the end of winter with an array of bright colours. There are slightly different traditions across India, with the northern cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur featuring a more vivid celebration compared to those in the south.

Bahrain Grand Prix

When: 18th Mar - 20th Mar
Where: Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain

The new 2022 F1 season commences in Bahrain as the teams and their drivers descend on the Bahrain International Circuit for the season opener. This race will no doubt have an extra level of intrigue following the climax of the 2021 season that saw Max Verstappen pip Lewis Hamilton to the World Drivers’ Championship in controversial circumstances.

Ultra Music Festival

When: 25th Mar - 27th Mar
Where: Miami, Florida, USA

The world’s premier electronic festival is back on the shores of Miami. Boasting some of the world’s best DJs, the festival is set to bring down hundreds of thousands of revellers to enjoy a weekend of epic performances.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

When: 25th Mar - 27th Mar
Where: Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

From Bahrain, the F1 teams make the relatively short trip to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The 27-turn circuit offers spectators views over the Red Sea and is officially the longest street track in use by Formula One.

Dubai World Cup

When: 26th March
Where: Dubai

The culmination of the Dubai World Cup Carnival, horses, jockeys and owners from around the globe descend on Dubai for the chance to win millions of dollars in prize money. This event brings in some of the wealthiest people in the world and sets the city abuzz with activity.

The Academy Awards

When: 27th March
Where: Hollywood, California, USA

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is the most prestigious film awards ceremony on the planet. Every year, members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honour the best films from the previous year with coveted awards in 24 categories.

The Masters

When: 4th April - 10th April
Where: Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia, USA

Perhaps the most prestigious event on the golfing calendar, The Masters is one of golf’s four major tournaments and features the best players in the world. The four main days of competition occur over the last four days (Thursday to Sunday) but there’s practice and other events to enjoy throughout the week, including the Par-3 contest.

The Grand National

When: 9th April
Where: Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, UK

The world’s most famous steeplechase horse race takes place every year at Aintree Racecourse and, this year, the famous track is welcoming back punters from all around the globe.

Coachella

When: 15th April - 24th April
Where: Indio, California, USA

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual festival held in the Californian ‘desert’. Since its first year in 1999, the event has become world-renowned and hosts some of the best music acts across two weekends of acts.

The World Snooker Championship

When: 16th April - 2nd May
Where: Sheffield, England

Perhaps the biggest event on the snooker calendar, the 2022 World Snooker Championship invites fans from far and wide to the Crucible to spectate the best snooker players in the world across two weeks of competition.

The Kentucky Derby

When: 6th May - 7th May
Where: Louisville, Kentucky, USA

Established in 1875, the Kentucky Derby is the most prestigious horse race in America, capping the two-week long Kentucky Derby Festival. In the United States, the one and a quarter mile race itself is known as the “fastest two minutes in sports” and is the first leg of the American Triple Crown (followed by the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes).

Cannes Film Festival

When: 17th May - 28th May
Where: Cannes, France

The pinnacle of film festivals, the Cannes Film Festival invites both A-listers and unknowns to the French Riviera to watch all the latest films and documentaries from countries all over the world.

Monaco Grand Prix

When: 26th May - 29th May
Where: Monaco

The most exclusive event on the Formula One circuit, the Monaco Grand Prix invites the rich and famous to this small country in southern France. The drivers compete on the narrow streets of this coastal principality as spectators watch on from the stands and also from the marina aboard large private yachts.

French Open

When: 16th May - 7th June
Where: Paris

The best tennis players in the world head to the clay courts of Roland Garros for the French Open - one of four Grand Slams on the tennis calendar.

UEFA Champions League Final

When: 28th May 2022
Where: Paris, France

The final match of the UEFA Champions League heads to the Stade de France in Paris this year and will feature the two best club teams in Europe. It is one of the most watched sporting events in the world.

Indy 500

When: 29th May
Where: Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

So much more than just a 500-mile race around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The competition marks over a century of history and nostalgia that comes together for a truly fantastic spectacle as 33 cars race for glory.

Primavera Sound

Where: Barcelona, Spain

Featuring headline acts like Dua Lipa, Gorillaz, Lorde and The Strokes, Primavera Sound is set to be one of the big music events of the year.

24 Hours of Le Mans

When: 11th June - 12 June
Where: Le Mans, France

The 90th edition of the biggest race in endurance racing will take place once again in the French town of Le Mans. As well as a driver's endurance, it also tests the durability of the car as they speed around the track for 24 hours attempting to go further than any of their rivals.

US Open (Golf)

When: 16th June - 19th June
Where: Brookline, Massachusetts, USA

This year the US Open heads to The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts where the best golfers in the world will try to get their hands on one of the year’s four Grand Slams.

Goodwood Festival of Speed

When: 23rd June - 26th June
Where: Chichester, England

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the world’s greatest celebrations of motorsport and car culture. Held in the picturesque parkland surrounding the stately manor of Goodwood House, an incredible array of cars and bikes are presented to an adoring public once a year, including F1 cars and Moto GP bikes.

Wimbledon

When: 27th June - 10th July
Where: London, England

Perhaps the most prestigious tennis Grand Slam of the season, the grass courts of Wimbledon host the world’s best players for two weeks of competition.

Tour de France

When: 1st July - 24th July
Where: Various - begins in Copenhagen, ends in Les Portes du Soleil

The most watched sporting event of the year, the Tour de France is an annual bike riding competition primarily based in France. Consisting of 21 stages over 23 days, there are several contests within the competition, including the points classification for sprinters, but the most coveted prize is the overall general classification winner.

World Games

When: 7th July - 17th July
Where: Birmingham, Alabama, USA

This new competition showcases a host of major international sports or disciplines that were not contested in the Olympics. New sports are added regularly, such as drone racing, canoe marathons and parkour. The 11th edition of the World Games takes place this year in Birmingham, Alabama.

White Nights of Saint Petersburg

When: 9th July - 12th July
Where: Saint Petersburg, Russia

This annual summer festival celebrates the city’s near-midnight sun phenomena due to its location near the Arctic. During the festival, the city is abuzz with life as people from far and wide join in the events that are put on during these days.

FEI World Equestrian Games

When: 6th Aug - 14th Aug
Where: Pratoni del Vivaro, Italy

Hosted every four years, the FEI World Equestrian Games bring together all the disciplines used in FEI competition (eventing, dressage, show jumping, driving, vaulting, reining, endurance and para-dressage and para-driving) into one competition across eight days. These games are the major international championships for equestrianism.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

When: 21st Aug
Where: Pebble Beach, California, USA

One of the most prestigious car shows, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance brings together a host of beautifully restored classic cars from around the world. Owners pitch themselves against each other in an array of competitions, such as Best of Show and Most Elegant.

Burning Man

When: 29th Aug - 5th Sept
Where: Nevada, USA

Burning Man is an annual gathering in the Nevada desert that includes wild costumes, art installations, spontaneous musical performances and lots of partying. No money is exchanged at the event and revellers are expected to bring their own food and shelter.

US Open (Tennis)

When: 29th Aug - 11th Sept
Where: New York, USA

One of four Grand Slams on the tennis calendar, the US Open brings in the world’s best tennis players to Flushing Meadows for two weeks of competition.

Cannes Yachting Festival

Where: Cannes, France

Founded in 1977, the Cannes boat show takes place in the beautiful coastal city every year and showcases some of the most stunning motor yachts, superyachts, catamarans and sailing boats in the world.

Asian Games

When:10th Sept - 25th Sept
Where: Hangzhou, China

The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The sports played are all ones that qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics, including volleyball, fencing and football.

Met Gala Ball

When: 12th Sept
Where: New York City, New York, USA

One of the biggest fashion events on the calendar, the Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the institute’s annual fashion exhibit and sees A-list Hollywood celebrities descend on the Big Apple to take part.

Oktoberfest

When: 17th Sept - 3rd Oct
Where: Munich

The world’s largest Volkfest is back for another year of parades, food, music, traditional dress and, of course, beer. The biggest beer celebration typically brings around six million people to the city of Munich over its three week run.

Laver Cup

When: 23rd Sept - 25th Sept
Where: The O2 Arena, London

A relatively new competition, the Laver Cup features the best six tennis players from Europe and the Rest of the World as they compete against each other in a ‘Ryder Cup’ format. This year, the holders, Team Europe, will host the tournament in London as Team World look for their first ever win in the competition's short history.

Monaco Yacht Show

When: 28th Sept - 1st Oct
Where: Monaco

The yachting industry descends to the glamorous Port Hercule for another edition of the Monaco Yacht Show. Super yachts from far and wide sail down and anchor in the South of France for this long weekend of events and festivities.

Singapore Grand Prix

When: 30 Sept - 1st Oct
Where: Marina Bay, Singapore

Formula One’s original night race has been described by reigning champion Lewis Hamilton as “very physical”. A bumpy street circuit and humid conditions make for one of the season’s toughest races, with Hamilton claiming one lap of the floodlit track requires double the energy needed in Monaco.

Rugby League World Cup

When: 15th Oct - 19th Nov
Where: England

Rescheduled from 2021, the Rugby League World Cup will take place across England. Featuring 16 nations, the tournament was originally going to be held in 2021, but Australia and New Zealand pulled out due to Covid-19 concerns. For the first time, the Rugby League World Cup 2021 will be run in parity with the Women’s and Wheelchair tournaments.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

When: 16th Oct - 13th Nov
Where: Australia

Holders Australia will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup just a year after they claimed the title. 45 matches of big hitting will be hosted across Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

USA Grand Prix

When: 21st Oct - 23rd Oct
Where: Austin

The Formula 1 season heads to the USA in what could prove to be a championship-defining race. With just three races after the USA Grand Prix, both the Constructors Championship and the Drivers’ Championship could be decided in Austin.

Melbourne Cup

When: 1st Nov
Where: Melbourne, Australia

The ‘race that stops the nation’ takes place on the first Tuesday of November every year and is even a national holiday in the states of Victoria and the Australia Capital Territory. Held at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, since its inception in 1861, the horse race has created historical moments, legendary victories and interstate rivalries.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

When: 2nd Nov
Where: Mexico

This annual tradition to remember and honor deceased family members is special to Mexican culture. The day sees a host of colourful parades featuring death symbols and voodoo-like costumes and decorations in a celebration that is intended to bring the dead closer to the living. The town of Patzcuaro has become one of the most famous places to visit over this period, but other major cities like Mexico City and Oaxaca also boast impressive festivities.

FIFA World Cup

When: 2nd Nov - 18 Dec
Where: Qatar

The first World Cup ever to be held in the United Arab Emirates, 32 teams will descend on Qatar for a chance at glory. Four matches are played every day in the group stages, making this event one of the most watched competitions in the world. Held just once every four years, this is perhaps the biggest sporting event in the calendar.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

When: 18th Nov - 20th Nov
Where: Abu Dhabi

The F1 2022 season ends at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. Both winners from both the Drivers’ Championship and the Constructors Championship will be crowded on this day.

FIFA World Cup Final

The FIFA World Cup ends at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar for the final. The two best teams in the world will battle it out over 90 minutes (plus extra time and penalties if needed) for the right to lift the coveted trophy.
