Air Charter Service, specialists in providing aircraft charters, has been awarded the environmental certification ISO 14001 - a highly prestigious award with regards to minimising operations that negatively affect the environment. The ISO 14001 is accredited to organisations which sustainably manage their waste and it is awarded to less than one per cent of organisations in the UK. Air Charter Service is committed to managing the environmental impact of its operations responsibly. The company has been carbon neutral since 2007 and is always looking for ways to further reduce its carbon emissions. Partnering with the CarbonNeutral Company because of its reputation, commitment to quality and transparent method of PWC auditing of offset projects. Carbon dioxide emissions are calculated by measuring the carbon footprint of Air Charter Service’s premises; from monitoring the company owned vehicles and business travel to monitoring the waste and landfill. The waste is converted into monetary terms and is then invested in the ‘Tieling Coal Mine Methane Project’ in China, which offsets 3,752 tonnes of the carbon dioxide per annum. The methane generated by this facility is used for electricity and heat, supplying two gas distribution companies. Alongside the environmental benefits, the project enhances the local economy with the creation of 260 permanent construction, engineering and maintenance jobs as well as 290 temporary positions. Air Charter Service is constantly looking for ways to reduce its energy consumption and has been operating recycling and waste reduction initiatives. To date, this includes a recycling scheme for printer toner and mobile phones and in less than 8 months, Air Charter Service has donated £3,000 to charity as a result of this scheme. Air Charter Service aims to recycle 95% of everything used, use only FSC approved printers and even offer a cycle to work scheme to boost awareness.
