SAVE THE CHILDREN & AIR CHARTER SERVICE COMBINE FORCES TO GET URGENT RELIEF TO MOZAMBIQUE

Leading aircraft charter specialist, Air Charter Service, recently chartered a Boeing B747-400 from Nairobi to Maputo in conjunction with the charity Save The Children. The charter flight carried almost 100 tons of tarpaulins and ropes into Mozambique to build shelters for the thousands of people left homeless by the floods earlier this year. Following the severe downpours that battered the country at the beginning of the year, swollen rivers burst their banks and flooded homes. Justin Lancaster, Group Cargo Director for the company, said: “The terrible floods led to mass evacuations in the southern tip of Mozambique. In fact, entire towns were forced to evacuate. ACS has a long and proud history in humanitarian efforts and when we received the call from Save the Children we found the best aircraft for the job as quickly as possible. “We offered to arrange the flight permissions in advance of the charter being confirmed, as we knew they could take up to 48 hours and we didn’t want a delay once everything else had been agreed. The aircraft positioned into Nairobi less than 15 hours after Save the Children gave the go-ahead. It was early morning when the aircraft landed and trucks carrying the cargo were still arriving at the airport at the time, so we started the pallet build before everything had been delivered.” Lancaster concluded: “Once loaded, the aircraft departed mid-afternoon and arrived into Maputo in the early evening.” Find out more about ACS’s relief work, visit: http://www.aircharterservice.com/humanitarian-relief
