When you’re packing your bags for a trip to the airport, that familiar feeling of resignation creeps in, knowing that you’ll soon be trapped at 30,000 feet, at the mercy of the weather and in many cases, your fellow travellers. To help, we’ve put together a list of our favourite gadgets that we simply wouldn’t travel without.

Noise-cancelling headphones

There’s nothing quite like air travel for noise, not only of your fellow passengers should you be travelling commercially, but also in terms of general background noise, engine noise etc. There are two types of noise-cancelling headphone, passive, which uses layers of high-density foam within the headphones to absorb sound, and active, which listens to the ambient noise around and plays out similar frequencies to effectively cancel out the sound. Some of our favourites include the Bose QC25s, the Sennheiser Momentum Wireless’ and the Plantronics Backbeat Pros.

Trying to wedge your latest paperback into your hand luggage whilst praying you’ve enough pages left to last the flight is a feeling many travellers share. With an e-reader such as the Kindle, Nook or Kobo, you can easily download a multitude of books before you travel, and, if you have access to Wi-Fi whilst away, even add more during your journey. The Kindle is probably the most popular e-reader, with its ability to sync directly with your Amazon account making it the most logical choice for many.

Bluetooth speaker

When it comes to travelling, there’s nothing worse than finding yourself without your tunes and what better way to ensure you can turn any hotel room into your own private disco. We’ve chosen bluetooth speakers as they sync easily with your smartphone without the need for cables, allowing you to still use your phone. Our favourites include the Bose SoundLink, the UE Boom 2 and the Envaya Mini.

Travel charger

If you, like us, tend to use your telephone as your music player, games console etc., you may find your battery running out far faster than you’d planned on. There are a plethora of battery packs out there for charging your phone, and depending on the type of phone, you may even be able to do so wirelessly. We love the Lumsing and Veha Pebble ranges, as well as the cute Danbo range. For wireless, try the Nokia or Duracell types.

So, make sure you make the most of your time on board and whether you fly commercially or charter a private jet with Air Charter Service, remember to bring along your favourite travel gadgets.
