MINNEAPOLIS AIRPORTS EXPECTING RECORD INFLUX OF PRIVATE JETS

With 3,768 private jet flights into and out of Houston’s airports over the Super Bowl weekend last year, Minneapolis’s airports are preparing for what is predicted to be the busiest day in their history.

Richard Thompson, President of Air Charter Service Americas, comments: “The Super Bowl is the largest single event for private jets and each year we book many aircraft to the Big Game. Airport officials have been planning for the event since it was announced that the Twin Cities would be hosting it back in 2014, with extended opening hours, as well as finding room for hundreds of private jets to park.

“At Minneapolis St Paul a seldom-used runway will temporarily be turned into a parking lot, meaning that it will have a parking capacity for private jets of 275. A lot of the flights we book are ‘drop-and-go’ as the parking is always a problem around the host city. Minneapolis is pretty well-equipped though, with three airports other than St Paul able to park up to 200 at a time.

“This year is a rematch of 2005’s Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the New England Patriots, as the Patriots attempt to retain the title, following their record-breaking comeback last year. We have been booking jets since November to come to the game and have been busy this week with last-minute enquiries.”
